The influence of the manner of pitfall traps setting in forest habitat on their catchability

The study compares the catchability of soil Barber's traps depending on the manner of setting them in pine forest conditions (Leucobryo - Pinetum and Peucedano - Pinetum). The first kind of traps were placed with their top edge on the level of the forest floor litter or the layer of moss. In the other case litter and plants were removed from a small area, uncovering mineral soil and traps were placed on it so that their top edge was on the level of mineral soil. It was found that the efficiency of the compared traps differed for some taxons of insects. The traps with the upper edge on the level of litter or moss were slightly more efficient.
