                Abstract

In the present research studied were ground beetles (Carabidae) and their assemblages that occur in suburban forests adjacent to the city of Bydgoszcz and parks and green squares and green areas within the urban borders of the town. The observations were carried out in eight plots over the period of four years and Carabidae catch was possible with the commonly applied Barber's live traps without bait. A total of 8908 Carabidae individuals were captured, representatives of 89 species - it is about 16% of all Carabidae recorded in Poland and about 34% of the species present in northern Poland. The largest number of species represented the genera of Amara Bon. and Harpalus Latr. The greatest species diversity of ground beetles was observed in the assemblages of suburban forest in the vicinity of Blonie [B], while the poorest habitats were those of the green squares of Babia Wies [BW] and W. Witos park [PW] complex in the city centre.
