Preliminary studies on Carabidae in selected habitats of south-eastern part of Uznam Island

Carabid communities were studied in three habitats - mixed pine forest, grey dune and birch-alder shrubs - located on Szczecin Lagoon at the south-eastern, Polish part of Uznam Island. About 700 Carabidae specimens belonging to 35 species were caught using Barber's pitfall traps. Calathus erratus and Pterostichus niger were the most frequently found species on the grey dune, Carabus hortensis, C. violaceus, Cychrus caraboides, Pterostichus niger, and Pterostichus melanarius were the most frequent in the mixed pine forest, while Carabus granulatus and P. melanarius were the most common ground beetle in birch-alder shrubs. The communities differed in ecological and geographic structure.
